Supporting Science & Engineering Innovation in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan’s 1st Centre of Excellence for the commercialisation of scientific results.

11th July 2017 0930 GMT: TransTech Capital LLP has received the support of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Education to partner with Azərbaycan Dövlət Neft və Sənaye Universiteti to create the country’s first Centre of Excellence for the creation of commercial opportunity from scientific results.
TransTech is expert at helping universities to turn science and engineering research into businesses and licensing opportunities. It has worked for years with many of Europe’s leading academic institutions including Oxford, Edinburgh and Manchester Universities with considerable on-going success.
Azərbaycan Dövlət Neft və Sənaye Universiteti was established in 1920 and has a long and rich history of scientific research in fields including oil and gas, power, chemicals and information technologies. In order to create the Centre, TransTech will transfer its specialist expertise to a team specially created at the University.

TransTech’s Founding Partner Simon Robeson commented:

£6.9bn is generated for the UK economy from business whose technology was created in one of its universities. This is repeated in every corner of the world where the connection has been made between scientific research and industry”. Simon continued “Azerbaijan has stated publicly that its future is directly linked to the level of its scientific potential. We have seen for ourselves evidence of this potential in the reservoirs of currently unexploited scientific potential at many universities in Azerbaijan. Through the transference of our expertise to Azerbaijani’s we hope to contribute to Azerbaijan’s aim to add value to its exports and to reduce the need for expensive imports by the use of home-grown science and engineering technologies. Neft və Sənaye Universiteti is the ideal partner for achieving our joint aims

Professor Mustafa Babanli, the Rector of Azərbaycan Dövlət Neft və Sənaye Universiteti commented:

having adopted a policy of commercialisation of innovative products through start-ups and technology transfer at our university we are fully committed to the creation of a technology innovation & commercialisation Centre of Excellence with TransTech Capital”.
